Those heartbreakers!

They’re too handsome. Too smooth. Too irresistible. Women flock to them like fish to bait.

In my book Remedy Maker, I have a side character named Aleksander who’s an undeniable Heartbreaker. Tall, dark, and handsome only defines his outer self.

Fearless, sexual, and Centaur define the rest of him. Warrior Extraordinaire might be better.

Here’s an opening scene featuring Aleksander:

A gorgeous dark-haired Centaur, with equally handsome dark eyes, leaned his arms on the back of the sofa, resting his chin in his palm.

“Well, hello sweet-thing. What’s your name?”

Patience gripped the edge of the blanket, its soft weave a thin barrier from prying eyes. She peered out, keeping her face half hidden.

His long fingers stroked an immaculate goatee, framing perfect white teeth when he smiled. Links of thick gold chain circled his tanned neck and swung with his movements.

“Leave her alone, Alek. She’s my . . . patient.” Rhy closed the front door harder than necessary and crossed the room in long strides. His brows pinched over his eyes, as he checked to make sure she remained fully covered. Facing the sorrel-colored Centaur, he crossed his arms and inclined his head. “Let’s talk in the kitchen.”

Alek’s smile grew, but he made no sign of straightening. Double rows of barbed-wire tattoos wound around his right bicep and jumped when he pumped the muscle. “I don’t think so.” He winked and pointed with his chin. “If he’s just your remedy maker, why’s your pretty face turning red, sweetheart?”

Cheeks burning, Patience yanked the blanket over her head with a squeak. Alek’s laughter ensued, followed by hoof beats moving toward the kitchen.

Look for the story of Aleksander, coming soon in
 Troll-y Yours.

Before you leave, tell me if you’ve ever had your heart stolen by a Heartbreaker.

Thank you for coming today!
Click HERE for more information on Remedy Maker. This book is an Erotic Fantasy Romance rated five flames in heat.

Man by day, Centaur by night, Rhycious is a remedy maker who needs his own healing.

He's the royal physician, famous for his cures. War and posttraumatic stress disorder has broken his spirit, preventing him from finding true happiness. Then a direct order from the queen to investigate an uprising forces him out of his secluded cabin at the edge of the forest.

Patience is an optimistic, good-natured Wood Nymph who works as a mediator to ensure harmony within the Nymph sector.

Environmental pollution in the aquifer stream that feeds the taproot tree of her heart is slowly killing her. Resigned to the fact she will not live long, she sets out to discover the mysterious disappearance of her sister. Experience has taught her to deny herself the love of a male, but the gruff Centaur is different. He doesn't push his expectations on her, only his healing nature.

When Rhycious loses his grip on reality, he believes his inability to control his disorder will drive Patience away. Nevertheless, desire flares, and Patience draws him close. Kidnapping and betrayal turn their mythic joint venture into a deadly bout.

Will their love endure when survival hinges on trusting each other?

We never got involved then, but years and years later (graduated college later), we met up and hooked up. He then stole money from me and locked me out of his apartment the next morning. (I found out later that he had a significant drug habit.) Anyways, I didn't take it lying down. I called the cops on him and then showed up at his workplace demanding my money back.

    mary_reiss @ hotmail.com

  45. I love both but lean toward the Heartbreakers. Bad Me! My favorite heartbreaker is the one that your heart can’t live without. One of my best is Lucas from D B Reynolds book “Lucas” (Vampire in America series). Strong mind, well put together and tender when he needs to be.

    Judy Peterson

  46. Yes but I've since realized what is the world was I thinking?!

    fencingromein at hotmail dot com

  47. Interesting excerpt!

I define a heartbreaker as someone who does it deliberately. So while I've had my heart broken, I wouldn't say it was by a heartbreaker. Those are ones I love in fiction, but not so much in real life.

    dancingcelt at gmail dot com

  48. Of course... but I'm having distance from that kind of heartbreakers now :)

  49. I did but I got it back.

    doxisrcool at aol.com

  50. Not really. I've had my heart broken, of course, but I don't usually fall for bad-boy/heartbreaker types.

a small blip in the past thanks for the hop

  56. Yes, I lost my high school love after a tiff and his family moved. Some 40 years later I found out he died in Cambodia on an AirAmerica "mission". In the meantime I married and divorced the dollar store version.

  57. Never had my heart stolen by a heartbreaker! Only in novels ;)

    dreammie_angel at yahoo dot com

  58. Once or twice, for some reason I just love those bad boys.

  59. I may not have much experience in the whole love department, but I have had my heart broken. Being considered a Heartbreaker can come from various actions that you do. I am a newbie when it comes to reading romance books but what I have learned is that it is not bad to have a chiseled body or an amazing personality. If you look at it over all, if you never put your heart out there, you may never have a chance at true love and happiness. I may get broken once in a while but only you are strong enough to pick yourself up and try all over again. One of my favorite Heartbreakers is Taylor Qualls the Earl of Sandlin from the book His Impetuous Debutante. Lady Phoebe kinda reminds me of myself, accident prone and finding trouble in every corner. Taylor doesn’t think he is good enough for Phoebe, so he’s a heartbreaker and doesn’t know it.

  60. No, I haven't.

  61. Yep unfortunately did have my heart broken by a heartbreaker but him leaving was the best thing because it allowed me to meet my husband my heartthrob.
    Thanks for the giveaway

  62. My husband was a heartbreaker until he met me. Now he's just half of my heart and my heartthrob.

Love the excerpt. Pememdy Maker is definitely going on my TBR list.

  63. I haven't and I hope I wont.

    spamscape [at] gmail [dot] com

  64. Yes, I still think about him.. and think I always will.

  65. Yes, once. He's not around any more. However, I've got a wonderful husband who has loved me and cared for me for years and he'll never stop, and I'll never stop loving him. I'm so glad I found him.
Thanks for participating in this awesome hop. Have a good one!

  66. My heart was broken as a teenager. I learned about myself from it too. Now that I am way older I know what to look for in love...LOL
    koonie2888 at yahoo dot com

  67. My heart's been broke by a heartbreaker...

    atthemapletable at yahoo dot com

  68. Luckily I've never had my heartbroken by a heartbreaker. I have been together with my first and only boyfriend for over 8 years now and we are getting married on April 6th of this year. I have helped various people get through there terrible heartbreaks though. I dont want to even think about anything happening between me and my fiance, because how deeply it would hurt. So I really do sympathize with those who have had their hearts broken.

    Thanks for participating!
